Better Communication through Education

Language Education Center

Better Communities through Education serves adult and generation 1.5 teens.  We offer English as a Second Language, Foreign Language, Test Preparation, Citizenship Test Preparation, Teacher Education & Development, Cultural Development and Awareness courses.

Our English as a Second Language program includes basic survival skills, pre-academic tract, academic tract, career preparation and target special purposes classes.  Students may choose to study in only one tract or may develop their own program with the assistance of an advisor.  Our English as a Second Language (ESL) offerings are designed to assist students to first use English for every day tasks.  Our six level integrated skills approach allows students to practice skills in the classroom just as they would use them at work, at school, at the doctors office, grocery store or at home.  Once students have mastery of everyday English they can continue with more focused study.

We have foreign language classes for family members of speakers of other languages, business people, students and those who just love to learn new languages and about new cultures.  Our foreign language program also has a family literacy option which allows families to learn together in private group.

All of our programs include cultural awareness and exploration because we believe that cultural awareness is essential to building strong communities. Suite 207

Renaissance Academy

Renaissance Academy was incorporated in the fall of 1999 as a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation with the purpose of establishing and operating a non-profit, non-sectarian charter school in the Phoenixville School District in Phoenixville, PA. In 1999, a group of concerned, energized, local parents came together to draft a Charter Application, which was approved by the Phoenixville School Board. The goals of the new charter school were to improve and to increase learning opportunities for all pupils; to encourage the use of different and innovative teaching methods; to provide parents and students with expanded choices in the types of educational opportunities available; and to hold schools accountable for meeting measurable academic standards.

Renaissance Academy opened for the 2000-2001 academic school year with a kindergarten through eighth grade program, serving approximately 560 students. The Academy had its first class of graduating seniors in 2005, with 95% of those students attending college. The school now serves grades K through 12, with approximately 930 students and will grow to capacity over the next few years to 1038.

In addition to a college preparatory curriculum, the school also offers sports teams, a band and choral program, and various extra-curricular activities for students. Admission to the school is open to any resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; however, the majority of our students come from Chester and Montgomery counties. Because Renaissance Academy is a charter school, the per pupil tax revenues flow from the students’ home school districts to the school.

To enroll your child in Renaissance Academy or to schedule a tour of the school, please contact Jennifer Scherer at 610-983-4080 ext 1134.
